Volunteering Opportunities

We currently have the following volunteering opportunities available.

1- Somali and Farsi speaking advice receptionists and interpreters – to undertake reception duties and/or interpreting support for the MRSN advice service. The skills and experience needed are:

  • Good spoken English as well as Somali or Farsi
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills and ability to deal sensitively with members of the public
  • Basic administration skills and ability to undertake simple tasks on behalf of clients

2-Receptionist/administrator– to provide reception cover for MRSN's office - dealing with people who contact MRSN by phone or in person; assisting the finance/admin worker with setting up and maintaining office administration systems; general administration support to MRSN and its projects.. The skills or experience needed are:

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good spoken and written English
  • Good IT skills
  • Administration experience and an understanding of administration systems, both manual and electronic

3- Website And IT support volunteer – to maintain, improve and keep up to date, the content of the MRSN website and database. The skills and experience needed are:

  • Good IT skills, particularly website design/maintenance, and sound knowledge of Excel
  • Good written English
  • Ability to understand and communicate MRSN's work and liaise effectively with Project staff to achieve this

4- MRSN Directory volunteer – to update and produce the MRSN Annual Directory of Refugee Community Organisations and support agencies and maintain and update the Directory on the MRSN website. The skills and experience needed are:

  • Good planning and organisation skills and ability to work on own intitiative
  • Good spoken and written English
  • Ability to liaise effectively with refugee organisations and service providers
  • Good IT skills and preferably experience in producing documents and using desktop publishing and database packages.

5- Volunteer Fundraiser – either to lead or be part of a fundraising group to organise events and activities to generate income to support the work of MRSN, including music events, refugee cultural events etc

Skills/experience needed:

  • Energy, enthusiasm, creativity, organisational skills
  • Previous experience of fundraising would be a bonus
